Sidney Cowell's June 1951 review of Shantymen and Shantyboys is listed in the sample contents of a 1953 publicity pamphlet for Notes.

The MLA Archives contain the original mock-up of the pamphlet, printer galley proofs, and the final distributed copy. Richard Hill's annotations on the cover of the mock-up reveal that 20,000 pamphlets were ordered from the printer. The inner pages of the mock-up include table of contents pages torn from Notes back issues. The front and back covers of the mock-up use the covers of a similar publicity pamphlet from 1948.
