Alice Illustrated Around the World
Alicens Abenteuer im Wunderland.
Translated into German by Franz Sester.
Illustrated by Charlotte Strech-Ballot.
Düsseldorf: Drei Eulen Verlag, 1949.
Sester’s translation is very free indeed. For example, Alice is a German school girl studying English. In place of the Mouse’s history lesson one finds the story of Little Red Riding Hood. There is also a long section in which Alice explains the rules of croquet to a soldier, who complains that the pig-baby spits on him when he babysits it.
