Alice Illustrated Around the World
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Illustrated by Margaret Tarrant.
London and Melbourne: Ward, Lock & Co., Limited, [circa 1945].
Tarrant belongs, like Millicent Sowerby, Thomas Maybank, Arthur Rackham, etc., to the set of new illustrators of Alice after the expiration of the book’s copyright in 1907. Her bright, sweet, wholesome, and idealized rather than realistic drawings of Alice, are part of what might be called the kind and familiar fairy tale tradition.
