Dag Nasty

Formed in 1985 by Brian Baker of Minor Threat, Roger Marbury and Colin Sears of Bloody Mannequin Orchestra, and vocalist Shawn Brown, Dag Nasty bridged the changing tides of the scene. With Brown, the band harkened back to the first wave of hardcore with a driving sound and arresting live performances. When Dave Smalley took over as vocalist before recording their first album, Can I Say, the band took on a more melodic approach which helped define post-hardcore. The band’s second record, Wig Out at Denko’s—with new vocalist Peter Cortner and bassist Doug Carrion—was also highly influential on the later emo and pop-punk scenes. Dag Nasty has since reunited with their original line-up and continues to perform and record.
