Nation of Ulysses
Formed in 1989 by James Canty, Steve Gamboa, Steve Kroner, and Ian Svenonius, the band initially known simply as Ulysses renamed itself as the Nation of Ulysses with the addition of guitarist Tim Green on guitar. Under this banner, the group performed their own unique blend of post-hardcore, informed by free jazz and revolutionary politics. A critical part of the D.C. scene in the early 1990s, the Nation of Ulysses performed widely at benefit shows and concerts, forging ties with other key elements of the national scene like Bikini Kill and K Records.
